So You Think Leads 2010 Yalumba Stakes Field & Betting Odds

October 6th, 2010

A diminutive but impressive final field of six gallopers have been accepted for the $400,000 Group 1 Yalumba Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on Saturday, lead by the Bart Cummings-trained champion So You Think.

Last year’s Cox Plate winner and hot favourite to win again this season, four-year-old High Chaparral So You Think is the top rated entry in the 2010 Yalumba Stakes and looks hard to beat.

Tipped by his trainer to return to form in the Yalumba, Alcopop is the best Place chance and is the only viable outsider to cause an upset at juicy odds through

Sportsbet have installed So You Think as the clear $1.55 favourite to win Saturday’s weight-for-age showdown.

The star burst onto the racing scene with his Cox Plate victory last spring and since then has not put a hoof wrong finishing second to All American in the 2009 Emirates Stakes and then resuming with a win in the Memsie Stakes last month.

So You Think continued his dominance winning the Group 1 Underwood Stakes on September 18 and will jump from barrier three in the Yalumba with Steve Arnold aboard.

The next horse in the Yalumba Stakes betting markets at Sportsbet is Whobegotyou at $2.80.

Set to start from barrier five with champion hoop Michael Rodd aboard, the Mark Kavanagh-trained Whobegotyou has been beaten by So You Think twice this year but is coming off a win in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Other runners in the Yalumba Stakes field include Bart Cummings’ seven-year-old Empires Choice paying $15, Red Ruler, Master O’Reilly well drawn in barrier one but still the longest priced entry at $101 and Alcopop.

Jake Stephens’ Jeune gelding Alcopop was one of the spring stars 12 months ago winning the JRA Cup and the Herbert Power Stakes, but was the beaten favourite in the 2009 Melbourne Cup finishing sixth to Shocking.

Tipped by his trainer to return to form in the Yalumba, Alcopop is the best Place chance and is the only viable outsider to cause an upset.

The 2010 Yalumba Stakes is scheduled as Race 5 at Caulfield on Saturday and is due to jump at 12pm.
