2010 Yalumba Stakes Nominations

October 5th, 2010

The nominations are out for the 2010 Yalumba Stakes, one of the highly anticipated Group 1 races set to light up the Caulfield track this Saturday during Caulfield Guineas Day.

The $400,000 Group 1 Yalumba Stakes (2000m) nominations has drawn 11 weight-for-age stars, many seeking the Caulfield Cup ballot exemption that comes with a Yalumba Stakes win.

Hot favourite in the Yalumba Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au is sure to be last year’s Cox Plate winner So You Think.

The Bart Cummings-trained High Chaparral four-year-old has already stamped his authority this spring having won both of his starts, which will see him installed at the shortest odds.

First-up So You Think took out the Memsie Stakes before his impressive Group 1 Underwood Stakes win at Caulfield three weeks ago.

The other weight-for-age champion that will be at the top of the Yalumba Stakes betting on Saturday is Whobegotyou.

Whobegotyou took out the Yalumba Stakes 12 months ago and is back to defend his title this weekend.

The Mark Kavanagh-trained Street Cry five-year-old has also had an impressive start to the season finishing second to So You Think in the Memsie before taking out the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Other notable Yalumba Stakes nominees include Gai Waterhouse’s glamour mare More Joyous, George Main Stakes placegetter Empires Choice and the Robert Hicmott-trained Linton.

Yalumba Stakes entries seeking a win to secure a spot in the 2010 Caulfield Cup Saturday week include last year’s beaten Melbourne Cup favourite Alcopop, the Ciaron Maher-trained Moudre well down the order of entry in 40th spot, and Bart Cummings’ JRA Cup winner Precedence.

The marquee race at this Saturday’s meeting is the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) where Toorak Toff and Ilovethiscity are two of the hot favourites.

Other feature events on the card worth checking out the odds for are the Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m), the Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) and the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1000m).

The final field and barrier for the 2010 Yalumba Stakes will be out later in the week and published here first so bookmark this page.
